Who is Ravichandran Ashwin ?
One of the most successful test players from Tamil Nadu, Ravichandran Ashwin’s date of birth is 17th September 1986. He was born in Madras (now Chennai). His father Ravichandran was also a cricketer who played at club level as a fast bowler. Growing up, Ravichandran Ashwin aspired to be an opening batsman who bowled medium pace. However, he was not successful at either. So, he dropped down the order and became an off-break bowler. He joined the Tamil Nadu team making his first-class debut in 2016. In 2010, he turned heads with his tight bowling as part of the Chennai Super Kings during the Indian Premier League. Soon after he made it into the national team. Ravichandran Ashwin made his ODI debut in June 2010, against Sri Lanka. He made his international T20 debut against Zimbabwe in the same month. His test debut for Team India came a little over a year later in November 2011, against West Indies.During his over 10-year career, at the highest level of the game, Ravichandran has emerged as one of the most successful spinners to ever play for India. He has also proved his worth as a lower-order batsman with five test centuries to his name. He is the fastest Indian bowler to reach 50,100,150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 test wickets. Presently, R Ashwin’s age is 34 years, and he has taken 401 wickets from 77 test matches. Ravichandran Ashwin has also taken 150 wickets from 111 ODI matches and 52 wickets from 46 T20 Internationals. His success level has varied while playing outside the subcontinent. Ravichandran Ashwin is the only spinner, other than Ajantha Mendis, who has perfected the famed ‘carrom ball’. Ashwin has been ranked 3rd among bowlers and 5th among all-rounders in Test cricket as of March 2021. He is the first Indian cricketer to score a century and take five wickets in the same Test match on two different occasions. He is also the third Indian cricketer to win the Man Of the Match award on his debut. Ravichandran Ashwin’s marriage took place on 13th November 2011. Childhood friend Prithi Narayanan is Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife. He is the father of two girls. He was roped in by the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission to create electoral awareness. This was met with huge success. He received the Arjuna Award in 2014. He was also selected as the ICC Test Player Of the Year and the ICC Cricketer Of the Year in 2016. He is an engineering graduate and currently resides in West Mambalam, Chennai.
